How do I work out what size spill kit we actually need?
Start with the largest single container stored in the area — your spill kit capacity should cover at least 110% of that volume. Add a 25–30% safety margin for real-world conditions. Our sizing guide walks through this in detail.
Do I need different kits for oil and chemical spills?
In most cases, yes. Oil-only absorbents are hydrophobic and will not touch water-based liquids. Chemical kits use inert absorbents suitable for acids, alkalis and solvents. Universal kits cover mixed risk but are not a substitute where concentrated chemicals are stored.
Are spill kits legally required in UK workplaces?
There is no single regulation mandating spill kits, but COSHH, the Environmental Protection Act, and the Oil Storage Regulations 2001 together make appropriate spill response a practical necessity for most sites that store or handle liquids.
How often should spill kits be inspected?
Monthly visual checks are standard. Contents should be replaced immediately after any use, and a full audit should be carried out annually as part of your H&S or environmental review.
Can you help specify kits for a multi-site rollout?
Yes. We regularly support multi-site specifications and consolidated quoting. Share your site list with rough liquid types and volumes and we will come back with a proposed kit layout.
Do you supply refills rather than full kits?
Absolutely. Refill packs keep you compliant without replacing the outer container each time. See our spill kit refills range for options matched to common kit sizes.
